Greylock® Appoints Mike Ahearn As Recruiting Partner

April 05, 2004

Greylock®, one of the nation’s leading early-stage venture capital firms, today announced the appointment of Mike Ahearn as recruiting partner, effective immediately. Ahearn brings to Greylock nearly thirty years of experience in executive recruiting and human resources management at executive search firms, major technology firms on both the East Coast and in Silicon Valley, and a major venture capital firm. Serving both Greylock offices, Ahearn will assist Greylock in expanding and coordinating its network of exceptional candidates available to the dozens of active Greylock portfolio companies. The appointment underscores Greylock’s long-standing commitment to leveraging its expertise in highly supportive yet consultative ways to help entrepreneurs build market-leading companies.

“I am extremely pleased to have Mike’s depth of experience in recruitment at early-stage technology companies on staff full-time with the Greylock team,” said Aneel Bhusri, managing partner of Greylock. “Mike has hands-on, company building expertise as an officer at technology companies on both coasts, and a recruiter’s skill at leveraging networks to find and place leaders.”

Greylock, with offices in the Boston area and San Mateo, has invested in such companies as Ascend Communications, Checkfree, DoubleClick, Internet Security Systems, Legato, Continental Cable, (now OpenWave), Millenium Pharmaceuticals, Sungard, Tellabs, Trilogy and Red Hat. Over the past 38 years Greylock has provided equity capital and support to more than 250 developing companies. Of these companies, over 120 have become publicly held, while over 80 others have merged successfully with other leading companies.

“I am delighted to join Greylock and its tradition of success in growing companies into market leaders,” said Mike Ahearn. “There’s an incredible wealth of contacts among the Greylock partners and I’m eager to help structure what is now informal contact-sharing so we can cultivate and manage the network of prospects available for our portfolio companies as they grow.”
