We are thrilled to share that Howard Ting has joined Greylock as an Executive in Residence.
Howard is an exceptional entrepreneurial leader with deep experience across product management and marketing, and most recently as a CEO. He has played a pivotal role in scaling leading enterprise companies — including Palo Alto Networks and Nutanix — from early days through IPO and beyond. At Greylock, he’ll advise and help our enterprise companies across areas including product strategy, messaging and positioning, go to market, and recruiting.
Howard has been a friend of the firm for nearly 20 years. We first met him while he was leading product management and marketing at Securent, a Greylock seed investment eventually acquired by Cisco. We were impressed with Howard’s results-oriented approach to marketing, blending creativity with analytical rigor to build a data-driven marketing engine. Our paths crossed again when Howard was at Palo Alto Networks, also a Greylock seed investment. He joined Palo Alto Networks when it was under 100 employees to help build out the marketing function, and was part of the company’s journey from early to beyond the IPO.
Howard was later CMO at Nutanix, joining in its early days and playing a pivotal role in helping Nutanix scale to a public company and reach $1B in revenue. And most recently, Howard spent five years as the CEO of Cyberhaven, where he transformed the company from a nascent research lab into an ascendant brand in data security, valued at over $1B in the company’s last round of financing.
From our experience as day-one partners to entrepreneurs, we know that having a great product isn’t enough. Getting the messaging and the go to market right is critical to a company’s trajectory. Howard’s two decades of experience working in startups, strong blend of right and left brain, and commitment to entrepreneurial learning and excellence will be of strong value to Greylock-backed founders and teams.
